The Post office has aparently cut a massive deal with BT Wholesale to start providing ISP services. Essentially they're going to become a Virtual ISP sitting off BT in a deal reported to worth £750 million over the next four years.
The Post Office already offers some telephony services to 4000,000 customers and its planning on upgrading them. Effectively what we're talking about here is a nationalised ISP. It will be interesting to see what they set their price at and whether they try to undercut the market by subsidising the business with our money.

Norfolk Council are my favourite ISP - free wifi. Makes going to Norwich almost bearable, almost.
It must be a new,eye-catching initiative.
How's Blair's Worldwide Farewell Tour going, BTW? I see Barbra Streisand's also on a world farewell tour. It must be tacky people's farewell tour year.
Actually Dizzy there was a time when the post office payed heavily via dividends into the exchechor.
Whether this service is subsidised or just cross marketed remains to be seen.
I used to the misfortune of working with the muppets who run the Post Office
If BT have paid them £750m for deal they are an even bigger bunch of fools than POL management
Given they lose £250m a year, how were they allowed to launch a phone service that was going to lose money for at least 3 years.
Must be getting old as I still think of my Landline as being a GPO phone. Looks like we have nearly gone the Full Circle then.
