Excuse me?

John Hemming: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what the extent of the backlog is in dealing with correspondence and other contacts at HM Revenue and Customs.

Dawn Primarolo: HMRC has received over 26 million items of correspondence from customers in the last 12 months. At the end of May 2007 it is estimated that around 76,000 items are more than 40 working days old.
Customers? I am not a "customer" of the taxman.

God, I hate the socialists! Even their attempted manipulation of words is so infantile.

How about dupes?

I hate this sort of stealth use of words. My least favourite is continually being referred to as a citizen. Irrespective of one's feelings we are subjects of the Crown, not living in any sort of republic.

They've been calling us customers for at least 7 years. Why? It's not as if we can go anywhere else! :>D

"It's not as if we can go anywhere else!"

It's as bad as the banks offering 'products' when they produce nothing but debt and ill feeling.
They used to be respected providers of accounts and services.

Speaking as someone who works there, I hate the word, and I know several of the professional accountancy organisations and business groups don't like it either... But in this "customer focus" day and age, you'd better get used to it. Don't expect any customer service though...
