So much for meritocracy
As much as the Mail on Sunday can be unnecessarily excitable at "political correctness gone mad" you can't help but wonder what is going on when a girl from Anglia applies for a job with the Environment agency in Anglia and gets told not to bother because she is "White English". However, had she been "White Welsh", "White Irish", or "White Scottish" she would have been considered a minority and her application would have been accepted.
All sounds to crazy to be true, but when she emailed the recruiters for the Environment Agency and asked, "Am I correct in assuming that as I am English (White) I need not apply as the preference is for the minorities you have listed, or can I apply anyway?" the reply she received from the recruitment officer, Bola Odusi, said,

It's ironic that these "anti-racist" measures actually help out the lunatic fringe like the BNP by giving them more material for their literature. You can almost guarantee they will use it in Anglia.

Miss Anglian missed a trick. You (and only you) can define your ethnicity to msuit yourself. If challenged, you can act outraged ("How dare you say that I'm not X?") and leave the other party gibbering apologies, as a friend of mine has done. Also, I have seen nothing to prevent you changing your ethnicity later, whenever and however you please.
White is the norm of all the people's of Northern Europe. To pretentiously define it to attempt to downgrade our race. The indigenous people are white and this is the default race of Europe.
Did it really say white english? They usually say white british.
I'm not sure why a white english or white british person would want to apply for a traineeship for ethnic minorities anyway? Being a majority.
