Official Government Policy: Fathers No Longer Required

The new Human Tissue and Embryology (HTE) Bill with revisions is too be published apparently. Of particular note in the press release is that the revisiions mean,

* retaining the duty to take account of the 'welfare of the child' in providing fertility treatment, but removing the reference to 'the need for a father'.
So.... erm.... well.... time to withold our sperm?

I seem to recall that one of the government's last significant interventions in this area was to require that donor-fathers must be identified (even if there's no need for them, apparently). Result: sperm drought.
