Tom Paid Up

Tom Watson has now paid up the £100 to a local children's charity in the Midlands after conceding he lost the bet he made toward David Cameron. The site has now been updated accordingly.

Tom has been in touch this afternoon and said "fair dos" and sent me the receipt that showed he had just paid £100 to the Acorn's Children's Hospice Trust in the Midlands. So whilst it's not Scope he has paid the money to charity.

As our end of the bargain that Guido and I would together match the £100, I have paid £50 to Scope via Just Giving (screenshot below) and Guido has given it directly to Scope through their website.

Good for Tom .... and a vastly worthwhile Midlands Charity has benefited by an extra £28 tax refund because the financially-astute Tom made the donation via Just Giving

You may wish to point out to Tom Watson that he should be able to give a bit extra from gift aid given he pays the higher rate of tax.

He knew he was going to either lose face or lose money - I'm glad to see him admit he was wrong and not let this escalate into something else.
