Now, I'm not sure that's the kind of phrase a genuine soccer fan would say. Surely he couldn't be reading from a prompt, could he?
What can we expect when he makes his crown pleasing video for the next Ashes series? "we're hoping for some scoring shots from the opening batsmen", maybe.

You're absolutely right. Nobody with the slightest knowledge of football would say: "We're hoping for some goals from the forwards".
Team formations are flexible nowadays and are often changed during a match. Goals can come from any member of the team (including the goalie at corners).
Brown's as big a phoney as Blair, who lied about watching Jackie Milburn at St James's Park.
