On the organ donation thing....

I refer everyone to the opinion I gave last September. The term "presumed consent" is a nonsense, what they actually mean is "presumed ownership".

And petty or not this presumption would make me opt out. I do not want the state to de-facto "own" my body.

Christ only knows what will make it into the small print over time.

The problem is that under the 1961 Human Tissues Act your executor, who has the duty to bury or burn your body, also has the right to give away your organs for "therapeutic" purposes if he/she thinks you wouldn't have objected (and didn't express a wish), which is pretty close to presumed consent.

"pretty close to presumed consent?"

never presume, never assume.

There is a whole world of difference between the state and an individual.

Brown gave away our pensions why shouldn't he give away our organs?

"...petty or not this presumption would make me opt out."

Yes, me too. I think there will be a big backlash against this idea.

You have to wonder who thought it would be a vote winner for Brown, and among whom...?
