Have just heard a rather amusing tale of Government incompetence on a geographical scale. Apparently the Department for Communities and Local Government paid an award of £2.5 million to the wrong Newcastle.
The money was meant to be a reward for promoting local firms, and was given to Newcastle Under-Lyme council in Staffordshire instead of Newcastle upon Tyne City Council in Northumberland. Under-Lyme was only meant to get £600,000 and they've been asked to pay the difference back.
That's what happens when geography is not compulsory anymore I guess!

I live in Staffs. Newcastle is like every other part of the county, full of supermarkets and warehouses. Fucking sheds. They should try having some proper firms that pay a decent wage, then it might not be such a wank area.
Bet your source was a mate in the pub, am I right ? No ? Then give a link so we can verify this important news.
What is it with people on the Internet demanding a link as if a link is some sort of Mecca? It's pathetic. Not everything can have a link because guess what, not everything is sourced off the Internet because there is a big wide world out there of people who don't use it.
Here's a link to click on you numpty
Well it's being covered by BBC Midlands Today today, is that good enough?
Also I'd have the first poster know that among district councils N-u-L got the highest Local Area Business Growth Incentive (LABGI) grant of any district in the country last year, so they must be doing something right...
As Simon Jenkins says, this country now enjoys third world standards of public administration.
'N-u-L got the highest Local Area Business Growth Incentive (LABGI) grant of any district in the country last year, so they must be doing something right'
Is that as in 'Look, A Big Gaff, 'Innit?

It's a disgrace that Newcastle under Lyme didn't own up. It's a disgrace that Newcastle upon Tyne didn't know they hadn't got it. It's a disgrace that Whitehall Wankers don't know anything about anywhere outside of the circle line.
I laughed out loud when I read this story in the Telegraph yesterday !
