Are the Tories closing in on a 20 point lead in the polls?

Here's a little juicy unconfirmed rumour that I've just heard. Apparently there is a YouGov poll due that will show the Tories with a 44% to 26% lead of Labour just seven days before polling in the local elections and the London Mayoral race.

As I say, this is just unconfirmed chitter chatter from the halls of power where the hacks talk amongst themselves. If it's true that would be an 18 point lead over Labour, and would certainly put (a) the wind in Cameron's and Boris's sails, and (b) give Brown yet another blow to his credibility and authority as a leader.

Update 20:00: This has now been confirmed as Telegraph YouGov poll just before 7pm.

Labour need to get rid of Gordon Brown and Ed Balls. Only David Milliband or Alan Johnson could (reasonably) compete with Cameron in the next general election.

People really dislike Gordon Brown - but I think people still despise 'smug Tory boys' too. Has the Conservative Party really changed? Can David Cameron convince the public that they have?

Brown will bring Labour down.
No doubt about it.

The last thing the Tories need is a huge lead going into any election, as this might force the scroungers and welfare culture to get off their lazy arses to keep their soft touch, anti work, masters in power.
