The joys of the BBC website abroad

They have almost as many adverts as me!

Sitting in coffee shops in the UK, I am often seeing German adverts on websites as the IP address range always seems to register there on some ad agency databases.

Oddly, while the BBC website seems to accept that I am in the UK, their iPlayer is rather more convinced that I am not, and blocks access to their clips.

On my last trip abroad I discovered Al Jazeera - a considerably better service than BBC World: balanced, better news values, less unnecessary glitz. Oddly, my Guardian reading - and writing - neighbour agreed!

I assume they will be getting rid of the license fee in due course then...
