You know those evil oil burning Americans that hate the environment so much, espeically that previous President Bush? Well the country has just overtaken Germany as the single biggest producer of wind power in the world. Not that it will be probably be acknowledged by the environmentalist loons and anti-human types like George Monbiot of course. If they do they'll probably say that it was down to the Messiah Obama.

Well obviously Dizzy. This is because in the Environmental Religion, the USA is Satan. (it came from Greenham Common....)
Surely the ready availability of immense amounts of wind in the United States is due to the Senate, not to Mr. Obama?
It's also important to remember that States have their own rights and priorities within the USA and were able to ignore Bush's obstructionism (GOP Arnie in California for example). And there are plenty of American leaders in this area unfortunately for the last 8 years none of them were in the White House.

Funny you should. I was leafing through one of those fact books the other day - a sort of Pears' Cyclopedia ripoff (I expect it's the last one I'll ever buy, what with the interweb and all), and I noticed something interesting: per capita emissions of traditional air pollutants (ie, not the dreaded carbon) in the late 1990s.
Carbon monoxide, which is pretty nasty: USA, 314kg/cap; Canada, 338; Australia 958. Particulates: USA 10kg/cap; Canada, 58.5; Norway, 12; Hungary, 13.
And so it goes on. The USA's reputation as the world's biggest polluter is based entirely on total emissions, and being the largest country at the same level of industrial development as Europe, Australasia and South-East Asia, it has the biggest numbers. But in fact, compared with the rest of us - including (in some cases especially) its sanctimonious neighbour to the north - it's doing pretty well.
I'd prefer geothermal. Available everywhere, always on.
