Leave those dogs alone!

Not that I want to give the Government any ideas, but it seems at least one German politician wants to take DNA databases to the next level. Conservative MP, Peter Stein apparently wants to have a DNA database of all the dogs in Germany mapped to their owners.

Why? Well that's simple surely. If the dog does a turd on the pavement they can scoop it up and take a DNA test then fine the approriate owenr for not cleaning it up themselves. Apparently, "Just saying 'it wasn't my dog' will not wash any more". For some reason Niemoller springs to mind.

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then they came for the dogs, and I didn't speak up because I used a proper toilet.

Classic. Let's do it here! We have to really, in order to be consistent with our other database projects on the same scale of insanity.

Pastor Niemoller comes to mind almost weekly these days.

Can you imagine the job advert.

Sit Vac. Dog Turd Collector and Analyser. Your duties will include walking the streets collection dog turds. Analysing same at our state of the art labs (pun intentional) and tracing owners by the use of the LA comprehensive database.

Can you further imagine putting that service on your CV?

Nothing more than scare tactics. Faeces is a most unreliable source for DNA material, although the ordinary dog owning pleb won't know that.

Dogs are some of the nicest people I know. They are good companions and great friends, but the best thing about dogs is how good of friends we are to them : )
