Here's an interesting set of slides from Dan North about how the implementation of continuous delivery practices, as per the the book of the same title, grew into what we now call DevOps.

Dan doesn't go so far as to call himself the father of DevOps but rather the midwife, as he was there, and definitely assisted at the birth back in 2005.

If Dan is the midwife though then I'm not 100% sure what that might make me as I was the Ops guy that the project liaised with and dictated that the legendary "Conan the Deployer" should be written solely in Bash. Go me! (what was I thinking?)

Seriously though, this project probably had the biggest impact of any on how I approach deployment and infrastructure in general.
